The famous American aircraft carrier 'Kitty Hawk' sold for one dollar.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The "Kitty Hawk" fleet, which has led US forces to victory in several wars and played a key role in the war, has been auctioned off for a dollar and will now be dismantled after undergoing shipbreaking.
The USS Kitty Hawk, a symbol of American power on the world's oceans in the 70's, played a decisive role in Vietnam and the Gulf War. The tax will be reused or sold. Interestingly, last year a company called International Shipbreaking Limited bought it from the US Navy for just one dollar as it would cost a considerable amount of money to make and its profits could be reduced. The USS Kitty Hawk has a total length of 1047 feet and a width of 252 feet. Due to its size, it cannot cross the Panama Strait, which is why it will be diverted to Texas, which will be about 14,000 miles long.
The fleet, built in 1960, was named Kitty Hawk, a North Carolina site where the Wright brothers tested their first aircraft. After 50 years of service, it was retired in 2009 and is no longer in use. Vietnam proved to be a dangerous weapon in the US war, a symbol of terror in the Cold War, and Iraq was devastated by it in the Gulf War. Its warplanes flew more than 100 times a day during the Vietnam War and dropped bombs on many locations. Kitty Hawk also played a key role in the war against Somalia.
